Soma: A Comprehensive Path to Somatic Transformation

Soma brings together five qualities that make somatic transformation accessible within everyday life: simplicity, integration, a contemporary approach, inclusiveness, and respect. Each addresses a different human need. Together, they offer a new way to live and be.
Simple
The body is the common ground we share with all humanity and other living beings. Soma begins by connecting to the body and the life flowing within it. No prior knowledge is needed to walk the Soma path, making it easy to learn, practice, and teach.
Its practices can be adapted for different ages, body types, and abilities, including people living with stiffness, disabilities, illness, or partial paralysis. We begin where we are, slowly move upward and forward, and eventually arrive at the peak.
Integrated
Soma provides us with a master key to open the doors to three dimensions of truth: the known, the unknown, and the unknowable. By opening the door to the known, we understand the world around us through seven senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, balance, and spatial orientation. We can understand why we engage with politics, the economy, culture, religion, philosophy, and science. By opening the door to the unknown, we explore the world within through the eighth sense of interoception, becoming aware of our breathing, heartbeat, hunger, thirst, emotional state, and pain. By entering the unknowable, we explore the world beyond—the realm of pure consciousness—through sensing and feeling.
Together, these dimensions help us live fully, with a silent mind, a compassionate heart, and a blissful body.
Contemporary
Soma draws on ancient wisdom through a non-religious, non-spiritual approach informed by science. It does not require hours of daily practice, following a guru, or attending extended retreats.
Its practices fit into daily activities, allowing people to pursue transformation alongside work and family responsibilities. Ordinary moments become opportunities to notice our responses, reconnect with the body, and act with greater awareness. Practice becomes part of how we live.
Inclusive
Soma affirms the everyday world without labeling it an illusion. It welcomes everyone, regardless of belief, background, culture, race, or color. Theists, atheists, agnostics, and people of other perspectives can participate at any stage of life.
This inclusiveness recognizes different developmental needs. While some traditions emphasize moving beyond identification with the self, Soma begins with building a healthy identity. A stable sense of self helps us find our place in the world, pursue our aspirations, and celebrate life. This foundation matters amid rapid social, cultural, economic, political, and technological change.
Respectful
Soma respects other systems and traditions, encouraging people to continue practices that help them and do not harm others. Its purpose is to support growth while leaving room for different paths. People can explore Soma while retaining the practices and relationships that already sustain them.
