What Soma Is

Soma is a body- and science-based teachings to awaken somatic intelligence for health, happiness and transformation.

Soma’s path transcends religion, culture, race, color, and nationality, helping individuals to transform themselves and become compassionate builders of a peaceful world.

Four Facts of Soma

The First Fact

We all want to live, flourish and to reach our peak potential

The Second Fact

Only few reach life's peak due to six life traumas, blocking the flow of life energy within the body

The Thirds Fact

We can unblock life energy in the body through somatic practices and by understanding our unique somatic personality

The Fourth Fact

We will experience the following five on the path: Somatic Identity, Somatic Crises, Somatic Self and Somatic Non-dual

Meet Our Founder: Dr. Jivasu M.D.

Dr.Jivasu SOMA.jpg

Jivasu (Pradeep Kumar) is a physician and the founder of Soma Path. Soma Path is a call to return to the body for health, happiness, transformation and to discover our destiny.

According to Jivasu, the body is humanity’s common ground. Awakening its intelligence can ignite a somatic revolution, freeing us from fear, guilt, and trauma. We begin to live in peace, passion, and bliss, in harmony with all living beings.

Trained as a pediatrician in India, Jivasu spent 13 years with his wife, Dr. Karen, serving as a volunteer physician at the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh and in the remote villages of the Garhwal Himalayas. It was at Sivananda that he experienced his first awakening. This awakening came to full fruition twelve years later as the realization of wholeness and freedom from the fear of death.

Jivasu affirms that his lineage is not limited to a single tradition, but extends to life itself, which began long ago on Earth as a single cell. He has been deeply influenced by the teachings of Sri Aurobindo, J. Krishnamurti, and U.G. Krishnamurti.

He has taught a variety of teacher training programs around the world, including Hatha Yoga, Nada Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, and meditation. He has appeared on various podcasts, on Gaia, in independent films, and on Cable 14 television, and has spoken extensively at gatherings and international conferences.

He is the author of several books and manuals, including Meditation: A Path of Relaxation, Awareness, and Expansion of Awareness; Naturality: Living According to Your Nature; Offerings in Longing and Love; Understanding Death to Live Fully; and Return to the Body — The Soma Path. A book on his teachings, Awakening Begins in the Body — The Soma Path, was published by Mira Rostami.

The Science

4c70231f-3e3e-4ecf-8993-836bb994cce7-2026-07-30.png

What is the body?

The body, of which the brain is one of the organs, is a confluence of three cosmic forces of matter, energy, and consciousness. The body is a microcosm and an extension of nature.

What is science?

Quantitative science – We gain knowledge of life through quantitative measurements, experiments, and

research.

Qualitative science – We gain knowledge of life through self-reflection, self-enquiry, critical questioning, and Somatofulness or interoception. It is based on feelings.

What is transformation?

Breaking and transcending the trauma's patterns is transformation. It leads to peace, love, and well-being, and freedom from fear, guilt, and suffering. Transformation is not a point but a process with many points in it and there is no end point.

Five Experiential Stages of The Soma Path

Somatic Identity

Building an embodied healthy identity or self is essential to find our place in the world. It is the foundational stage on which all other higher stages are built.

Somatic Crises

When life energy reaches a critical a threshold, the old identity is dismantled releasing trauma. Identity is reassembled but instead of being a master it becomes a channel of higher life.

Somatic Self

The first transformative stage which includes the experience of witnessing consciousness, flow, and destiny. We become free from fear and guilt.

Somatic Universal

Individual boundaries begin to dissolve. Connection to the living world becomes felt in the body, not just understood in the mind. The body opens beyond its own skin into the cosmic.

Somatic Non-Dual

Stage of pure consciousness. Wordless, timeless. The body is functioning with its natural biological rhythm.

The Community

Soma Path draws people from five territories of life:

Living in the Body

Daily Life & Personal Well-Being

"My body is working against me in everyday life."

Body in Relationship

Family, Partnership & Connection

"The problem shows up in how I relate to the people around me."

When Life Breaks Open

Trauma & Transformation

"Something happened - or is happening - and I can't go back to who I was."

Death and What It Teaches

Mortality, Legacy & the Final Chapter

"I'm facing death - or the thought of it is changing how I want to live."

For practitioners seeking academic recognition alongside their somatic practice, Soma Path partners with SHEN — the Spiritual Heritage Education Network. SHEN offers a Master's and PhD in Neurobiology of Transformation through its affiliation with Ubiquity University, using the neurobiology of the body-mind as a universal language across science, medicine, and contemplative tradition.

How Soma is different from other systems of teaching

In Soma

  • The body is the gateway to awakening

  • The focus is on life and destiny, not on God, Brahman, Tao, or any abstract metaphysical concept

  • The world is affirmed in its totality

  • Nothing is illusion; everything is reality at different levels

  • Desire is a tool, not an obstacle on the path to awakening

  • A healthy identity or ego is the foundation

  • Understanding one’s somatic personality is at the core of soma path
